Two of Anything is a Collection

I remember hearing a saying a few years ago that two of anything is a collection.  As I have become more and more involved with collecting I have pondered that saying, and how true it is.  It is fine to have one of something.  It may be a very nice something, but it is hard to consider it a collection.  So, ask yourself, what do I have two of?  Is it two silver dollars?  Two Hot Wheels cars?  Two PEZ dispensers?  And, once you have two, why not three, or four, or five of them?  You are a collector.  You know it, and you love it.

The other night I noticed that my daughter has three miniature snow globes lined up on one of her shelves.  It’s a collection.  It is her snow globe collection.

That same night I noticed that she had three princess/fairy dolls lined up on her dresser.  They are a collection.  They are her princess/fairy doll collection. Princess/Fairy Collection

I was looking at a few of the things I have in my office and realized that I have two wooden puzzles.  I believe that constitutes a collection of wooden puzzles.  Maybe that saying is true.  Maybe two of anything is a collection.

I also have one glass insulator.  It’s kind of cool,  it even has its original post, but I only have one.

Glass Insulator

Some people have large collections of glass insulators.  Here’s a link to a glass insulator that is very expensive, and beautiful.  But my one insulator doesn’t really make a collection.  In fact, I was thinking about just throwing it away, but then I thought, maybe someone else would like it.  Maybe someone else has a collection of glass insulators and they might want mine.  Any takers?

In the beginning…

A long story made very short.  Four years ago I came up with an awesome idea.  Over lunch at a cheap Chinese Food joint with my friend Jim we decide to develop a web site for collectors.  Jim collects NASCAR die cast collectibles and I collect postcards, coins, and stamps.  We figured lots of people collect lots of things and they needed a place to organize them and share them.  (What good is your collection if you can’t show it off to your friends?)   We started developing a web site, but we didn’t want to “release it” until it was just right.  Well, neither one of us is a developer, and neither one of us has a lot of money.  We just have a love of collecting.  And so, here we are four years later, without our “just right” web site to show, but we still have a love of collecting, and we still want to develop our site.  It may still take some time, but in the meantime we can blog about collecting, and learn from you.  Enjoy  your collecting!
